It cannot be denied that in the 1960s-1990s this cliché was quite true. Poppers were mainly sold in sex shops and gay places (bars, discos, saunas, …).
But since then, things and mentalities have changed a lot and the profile of consumers has “evolved” a lot. Today’s consumers have very different profiles, depending mainly on their usage.
Very regular users: often young people, mostly men
Among the “very regular” users, we find mostly young men (18/25 years old):
- Consumers for sexual use (gays, hetero hipsters, young couples in search of thrills, …)
- party people and clubbers who use it as a stimulant and energizer
Occasional users: often women or more mature couples
These new consumers often buy Poppers “to try” because they have heard about it, the idea being to spice up their social and/or sexual life. They are “curious” but more “reasonable” consumers, consumers who buy on impulse (impulse buying)
– more mature couples (20/40 years old) who like to spice up their lovemaking with a little Poppers
– straight people who are curious, who have heard about it but don’t know what it is
– older couples who spin a Popper at dinner parties just for fun and laughter ….
Very punctual consumers
There are both novices who try (to see the effects), couples to whom it is proposed at a dinner, the partygoers who sniff it to do like their friends, during a concert or a nightclub.
There are also curious people: “trendy” parents who want to understand why their son or daughter uses it, older people who use it to remember their teenage feelings, ….
In fact, the success of Poppers comes from the fact that it now reaches all audiences (men, women, young, old, ….). And the fact of finding them everywhere accentuates the “coup de coeur” purchases.
Poppers has become a festive product, synonymous with party and fun, so everyone can use it.
